Invitation to play: paper, crayons and coins

The idea was for them to explore crayon rubbings when they returned form school. But when I came back after dropping the kids in the bus stop, I found this

While I was yelling after Sophia to get up and put her shoes on, the kids was shape sorting the crayons over the rubbings - a very good cognitive activity.

It is very interesting how children come up with new ways to explore materials. It never occurred to me to do coin matching over the rubbings, when on reflection it is a perfect activity for a 3.5 year old, especially since Sophia loves very much the shadow matching worksheets.

Now, when it is time for the school bus and your child is engrossed in an activity that you have set up (presumably so that they will be engrossed in it, but after they return from school) what do you do?

  1. My kids are not old enough for school yet, but we do an activity most days after nap. Favorites are bead lacing, coloring, block patterns, free art on big rolls of paper. Today we are making chocolate chip cookies! That's ALWAYS a favorite!
